Concert Tickets are to be ordered directly from the venue.

The group 'Like a Hurricane' is a Neil Young tribute band... selected because Neil Young is also a Polio survivor.

There will be wine tasting in the foyer prior to the concert.  Join Rotary for a great night and our District’s first public concert fundraiser.

Goodies for Our Troops

The Rotary Project to be executed at the June 12 District Conference is the packing of care packages for service members on "the list" to receive them.

Anyone can be added to the list, so if any Rotarian wants to add someone, they are able to do so!

Items on the list below are needed for the care packages and cash donations to help pay for sending the packages to our troops.

Please bring any items on the list to one of our Thursday lunch or Flash meetings and they will be delivered by Mary Tempest or one of our other Rotarians who will attend District Conference.

Request for Funding for Oxygen Generators for Rural India

Dear Dave Palmer,

DAUSA is raising funds for small oxygen generators ($550 each) to be delivered to the rural areas in India. We are working with Rotary clubs here in the USA and India.   DAUSA, our DAI Partners in addition to the Rotary clubs have close connections in India that will be distributing the generators to the Rural areas of India where oxygen supply is the worst.  Constant transportation of the oxygen bottles (when available) is a logistical nightmare and having small oxygen generators in these areas is a solution that is needed now!  We already have them sourced and our in-country partners know where they need to go. We need the funds to purchase.

BBC “Typically, healthcare facilities consume about 15% of oxygen supply, leaving the rest for industrial use. But amid India's second wave nearly 90% of the country's oxygen supply - 7,500 metric tonnes daily - is being diverted for medical use, according to Rajesh Bhushan, a senior health official.”

Please help deliver not oxygen bottles, but small oxygen generators!

Click the donate link and then choose India Covid response or International deployments.

With our thanks,
DAUSA

Camp Create

Michaela (black sweater) is a founder of Camp Create along with Amy and Steve Colley, a Theatre and Visual Arts Camp for special needs children, and thanked us for our support.

In 2000 Michaela, Amy and Steve Colley were asked to take over a grant for Visual Arts Camp for special needs children.

The Camp is funded by grants, civic groups and businesses. It is celebrating 21 years using students and former students.  “Camp Create is suitable for children with special needs, ages 6-12, or children of equivalent abilities.”

“Camp Create is a visual and theatre arts day camp. It is specially designed and planned for children who have special needs, including physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral challenges.  The camp offers a unique blend of art and theatre instruction and games that are based around each week’s exciting theme.

Led by Steve and Amy Colley of The Dietrich Theatre and Michaela Moore of All About Theatre Performing Arts School, Camp Create is a mix of fun and learning, with consideration for children’s individual needs and interests.” (taken from their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/campcreatePA/).

The 1-2 week camp is built around a theme decided on by the kids.  If an animal’s theme, each child gets to create a character that bears on the theme.  What is the problem or challenge that they are trying to overcome?  Spaghetti monster who is a princess.  They work on costumes, sets and murals to help them create the selected theme.

Themes for summer 2021 include: Kings and Queens of Change, A Renaissance Adventure! And Villains, Monsters and Creepy Creatures!

This is their world to create and do.  They create a safe space for the children to create.  Michaela has s theater background and helps them with that aspect of the Camp.

At the end of the week, they present a play with all the children’s characters and creations.

The Camp has 2 fold objectives: art and advocacy   One non-verbal child surprised everyone when they spoke during the play.  These kids are exploring their right to be creative and express their voices.

Michaela says the children have taught her a great deal more about art than she would have learned otherwise.

Rotary funding helps to buy art supplies for Camp Create.

Camps largest group is 25 kids, many come with a helper.  There are 3 teachers.  It costs $25 per week for a child to attend and they offer scholarships for those who cannot afford it.  Camp is 10AM-2PM.

Most students come from Wayne, Wyoming, Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties.  Transportation is sometimes challenging if their parent’s work.

After Michaela’s presentation, Pres. Terri Detrick presented a $500 check for Camp Create that was accepted by Michaela Moore and Amy Colley.
