Speaker:
Jana Vlckova
Inbound Exchange Student from Czech Republic

Her decision to do an exchange was very spontaneous.  Her special interests include: doing sports (especially tennis), eating (favorite foods are sweets like cupcakes), working and helping others. She likes helping a lot and offers her help to anyone who needs it from the club.  She likes reading, especially personal growth and competitively learning with her friends. She also loves to try new things and travel. She mentioned that she could be ready in a few minutes if anyone wants to take her along on a trip.

Her father is an opera singer, her mom an engineer and has a 26 yr old brother studying law. She also wants to study law.

Her school in the Czech Republic is a medical high school that was bombed during the war. She has studied chemistry there. There are no sports in the school and the students stay in one group and it is the teachers who move from classroom to classroom and subjects.  They study 15 subjects per week. 14 grades and she is in grade 12, so she will have 1 more year of school to go when she returns home, as this year will not count.  She will have to pass some tests when she goes home to catch up with her class.

Czech Rep borders Slovakia, Poland, Germany and Austria. Prague is the capital. There is a lot of emphasis on folklore, including national dress.

Czech food is typically dumplings, roast duck with dumplings and sauerkraut, potato dumplings with bacon.  Potato cones with poppy seeds, donut like food.  She loves Czech sweets, buns with plum or cottage cheese filling.  Drinks are wine and beer (drinking age is 18). Kofola is like our Coke Cola.

Moravia – Brno is her home city, which is the 2nd biggest city in Czech Republic.

She then spoke about her time in PA.  Her current host family has 5 siblings, so it is a big family.  Her first day in school was interesting.

She went camping with the Rotary exchange students. She started to play to tennis and had senior night. Rohlik is her favorite bread at home and someone prepared it for her since she really misses it.

She went to the Bloomsburg Fair with Ale and Mary and had a great time.  They had haluski at the Fair.

Last weekend, she went to a lake house and went kayaking and fishing.
