We have already paid the first half year of dues for you to RI and our District, so we would really appreciate it, if those still owing dues pay very soon, so we are not forced to terminate your membership in Dec.  The Club is charged dues from RI and District for anyone on our membership rolls on July 1 and Jan 1.

The Wall That Heals - Visit to Tunkhannock

Louis Marcho, a licensed funeral director at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, spoke about The Wall that Heals, a mobile ¾ scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. While it has been in other counties, it has not yet been in Wyoming County. There are over 58,000 names on the wall, all of whom lost their lives in Vietnam and it honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the US Armed forces in the Vietnam War.

The Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., owned and operated by Rotarian Tom Kukuchka, is leading the effort that will bring the exhibit to Tunkhannock. It will be here April 30 to May 3, 2020 at the Tunkhannock Football Field. It arrives on April 28. It goes on display midnight on Wed and is open 24 hr/day until Sunday.

Once the tractor trailer containing the wall exits Route 81 to Clarks Summit, approximately 500 motorcycle veterans and emergency vehicles will be joining in to escort the wall along the 45 to 60 min parade route to Tunkhannock.

Approximately 150-200 volunteers are needed for the event, since they need 10 volunteers at the wall every shift (3-5 hr shifts) and 4 for overnight (4 hr shifts).  Louis is currently working on logistics.

There are elderly veterans who may need some people movers, wheelchair movers.  Afternoon and weekends volunteers will also help people find the person’s names on the wall and take pencil rubbings of their names. They also need people to help with parking and getting people to and from the wall, as well as, at the various ceremonies. Over 30 veteran’s groups have already volunteered to do the overnight shifts. They are currently collecting names and phone numbers of people who want to volunteer.  To learn more about how you can help the effort, please call or email Louis Marcho at 570-836-3321 or twtunkhannock@gmail.com.  They will especially need volunteers on Thurs and Fri to help with the school group tours during school hours. (To schedule a tour, please contact Louis Marcho at 570-836-3321.)

The event is free to all and there is nothing for sale during the event.  T-shirts and hats are now for sale to benefit Tunkhannock to help defray the costs of the wall coming here.

If you want to make a donation, a fund has been set up at the First National Bank in Tunkhannock and any money left over after all costs are paid will go to Wounded Warriors.  They need at least $15,000 and are close to having raised $10,000, so they still need more money. There are additional costs of around $5,000. Donations can be made to the First National Bank in Tunkhannock, checks should be made payable to “The Wall That Heals Tunkhannock” or mailed to 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA.

Sign me up is the website that will have the timing on everything during the event.
