This newsletter is very late due to personal life getting in the way.  The same is true for the next newsletter. Sorry for the delay and please note that some information is now out of date.
 
Pledge and Invocation:
 
President Sandra Lane brought the meeting to order at 12:15 PM at Purkey’s Pink Apple with Ron Furman leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Dave Wilson giving the Invocation.

Club News:
 
Ad Buck – Carol Ziomek – Wyoming County Community Health Foundation is having a Golf Tournament at Shadowbrook Inn and Resort on Thursday Oct 3, 2019 to help support health and wellness programs in our area. Shotgun start at 9 AM. They are looking for both teams and sponsors.  Please contact Carol Ziomek or Shealynn Shave at WCCHF if you are interested in sponsorships, playing or bringing a 4-person team. $80 per player and $320 per 4-person team. Registration deadline is Sept 26 and includes 18 holes of golf, hot dog on the turn, steak dinner and beverage.  Prizes will be awarded at 4 PM.
 
Ad Buck – Carol for Samantha Maruzzelli – Antonio’s Pizzeria and Restaurant is look for all job positions, cook, counter workers and pizza makers.  Please let Sam know if you or anyone you know or anyone you know is interested.
 
Pres. Sandy reported that on Oct 5 at 9 AM, there is a Howland Preserve 5-Mile Trail Race for the Wayne Robinson Memorial and they are looking for sponsors.  Sandy asked for a vote from the members that the Club agree to a $100 donation as a race sponsorship. The membership agreed to this level of sponsorship.
 
Volunteers to Help Kiwanis at Wyo Cty Fair – Pres. Sandy Lane
 
Kiwanis has issued a Facebook request for volunteers to help them man their food booth at the Wyoming County Fair.  So far, we only have 2 volunteers (Mike and Amy).

Exchange Students
 
Ale – from Ecuador.  This weekend, she went to many places in Tunkhannock, people very friendly. She also went to her first soccer practice in school and toured the school. She also met up with Kike and they went to the movies at Dietrich.  Yesterday was her first soccer game.  She is having a good time with Mary and has met a lot of people.  She is very happy here.

2019 Harvest and Wine Festival Committee:
 
The next Meeting will be Monday evening Sept 9 at 6 pm at the Tunkhannock Library due to Labor day on first Monday.
 
Ann Way has dropped off the tickets at the local sites, so we can now advertise that tickets are available for local purchase.
 
Posters and rack cards are now available. If you take them to sites, please let Ron know where you have taken them to avoid duplication of efforts.
 
Membership/Recruitment/Retention Committee – Ron Furman/May Tempest
 
The Board approved the new name badges. - New name badges will be ordered for club members and members need to indicate what first name they would like on their badges (i.e. Sandra, Sandy etc.).
 
Mary reported on the Rotary Survey and that orientations for new Rotarians was needed.  Therefore, there will the first Fireside Chat on Friday Sept 20 6-8 PM at Bogey’s.  RSVP by Sept 11 so we know how many new and senior Rotarians plan to attend. They will talk about various Rotary topics including the Rotary Foundation, maybe a trivial pursuit game.
 
District News:
 
See the Aug District newsletter for information on the various events and activities happening in District 7410. Please support our fellow Rotarians at other clubs in our District for their fun upcoming activities/events.
 
The 2019 District Conference will be Apr 18 at Shadowbrook.  It is likely to be a 1 day event depending on the agenda. Many people got a survey from Karen to fill out re the conference plans.

Our next Meeting will be Thursday, Aug 29 and our speaker will be Norm Kelly who will talk about highlights from the 2019 RI Convention in Hamburg, Germany.
 
Prior to adjournment, Mary Tempest led the recitation of the 4-Way Test by the attendees.
 
President Sandra Lane adjourned the meeting at 1:30 PM.

Fran Langan
Keystone - a Valuable Community Asset
 
Frances Langan, Ed.D. Keystone College is Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Strategic Initiatives at Keystone College and is also a registered nurse.  She has been at Keystone for over 30 yrs.
 
Their Mission and Vision is to: Inspire students, support students, empower students, transform lives. 
 
This year they will have 360 new students for a total of over 1,200 full time students. 
 
New President wants to forge strong career pathways and professional development. They will be offering continuing education certificates in a short period of time.
 
They are also adding new programs in computer science starting in Sept. with a concentration in artificial intelligence: quantum computing, machine learning and software development.   They have 3-D printing resources.
 
New Developments.  For first time in 71 years, they will have a football team at Keystone.
 
There is new construction on campus, including a new field house for the sports team.  Also making Keystone Commons, which will have a bookstore, bank, fitness center, food and coffee. It should be occupied by end of Nov.
 
Woodlands Campus Trails - there are a lot of walking trails. There is also a catch and return stream for fly fishing.
 
They have a fencing studio at Keystone, which Ale was invited to attend.
 
The public is also invited to attend the Keystone College Observatory on Route 107 in Fleetville, on Wed & Fri from Sept 4 to Nov 22, 2019 at 7:30 PM.  You can bring a group and picnic there with a group with advance notice.
 
Fran mentioned that you can watch their website for announcements re activities, including music, at Keystone.
