Andres – Returned from trip across America, it was cool!  Thank you to the club for hosting him and having him here for the year. He has 4 more years of secondary high school in Poland upon his return. He would love to attend MIT in computer science.

Guest Speaker:
Jenny Huang
Outbound Exchange Student to Bolivia

Jenny is 18 years old, just graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School, where she took 4 years of Spanish and played piano for 10 years.

She gave her brief presentation that she will be giving to Rotary Clubs in Bolivia that will introduce them to Tunkhannock, herself and her family.

In addition to her Mom and Dad, she has 1 brother and the family owns a Chinese buffet.

She described a variety of typical American foods, including apple pie, hot dogs, cheeseburger and mac and cheese.

She attended RYLA and was a participant for the “shoes that grow” program.  She was in the Interact Club for 2 years, where she helped with the “sack hunger” program.

Jenny has been accepted at Penn State University upon her return, but she is not yet sure what she will study.  She is thinking about something in the medical field.

She will be going to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, which is the largest city in Bolivia.  Her host family will provide her with 4 host siblings younger than her.  They have a dog and live in the city, which is bigger than Tunkhannock.

She understands more Spanish than she speaks, but she will learn quickly once immersed in the culture there.

When asked why Bolivia?  Jenny responded that she wants to be fluent in other languages and they speak Spanish there. She wants to learn about their culture, foods and language.

They have scheduled trips to 7-8 cities in Bolivia and an optional trip to Machu Pichu in Brazil, which she will hope to go on.  She will begin as a junior the first half and then a senior for the second half of her exchange.  She will be going to a private school.
