Yearly Dues Time Approaching – Treasurer Elaine Walker
We are rapidly approaching the end of the Rotary year (June 30) and the receipt of the bill from RI and District for Dues for everyone on our membership rolls on July 1.  As was done last year, we are asking everyone to please pay for the July 1 2021-June 30 2022 Rotary year by June 15 at the reduced annual dues of $150. If you pay after June 15, the annual dues are $160.  Please make out check to Tunkhannock Rotary and give to Elaine Walker or mail to her at: 102 Shadowbrook Drive, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
New members who joined after Mar 1, 2021 will not be charged any annual dues until June 2022, since Rotary District 7410 will pay both RI and District dues for you.
Our next Meeting will be Thursday, May 13.  Our guest speakers will be Michaela Moore & Amy Colley, who will speak about Camp Create. We will also be presenting them with a donation for this year’s Camp.
President Terri Detrick adjourned the meeting at 1:15 PM.

Addressing Grief & Stress Through Art
Jan started a group after her husband passed away. It took her a year to admit she was not doing well and went to group counseling. She admitted that she was angry.
She likes to teach art (taught elementary art in our school district and at the jail and is on the Endless Mountains Council of the Arts).  So, she talked with Michele Thomas in Tunkhannock and they both had family member losses and grief.  They decided to start a group for people going through grief & stress. Most are adult students who have had a loss that they are trying to deal with.
Michele is an acrylic painter; Jan is a watercolor painter.  They sent out a flyer to churches and civic groups and to Tom Kukuchka at the funeral home.
Initially, they had to charge for supplies, since they are expensive.  She was at a viewing at Sheldon Kukuchka Funeral Home and Tom said they would like to support this group, advertise it and made up a brochure for clients at the Funeral Home.
At first, they met at Michele’s studio next to Steve’s Title and Tag, then moved to Jan’s studio, where they could spread out due to COVID, but closed in Nov.
So, Jan did 3 YouTube videos to keep the students involved and now the students are back in person at Jan’s studio.  Since Tom Kukuchka is supporting this endeavor, they do not charge now.
Some of the people have never painted before.  First time, the participants were made to paint with black, then red paint and they talked about how they felt and the impact of color on their feelings.  Next, they dipped cardboard strips into paint and dragged them down on paper and you have a building without a brush.
Then she had them add other colors to their paper.  They moved on to painting vegetables like carrots, turnips and tomatoes.
Jan used 2 books she had read for ideas on how to use art to help people to positivity and through loss.
Michele then taught them about acrylics and mixed media collages.  They also made books out of acrylic.
This spring, they started with drawing, which really panicked the students.  First, she showed them all the things you can draw with (stick in ink, pencils, colored pencils, charcoal, watercolors, crayons etc.), and they have now moved on to drawing animals with shading and shadows.
This week, the participants got to draw heads with faces.
Jan then showed the club a variety of art works from the participants in the group and mentioned that this group has really had a positive impact in helping them deal with grief.
