Wyoming County COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Support

Vaccination Clinic Volunteer Committee Chair Ann Way and her excellent team have been soliciting and providing volunteers from Rotary and the community to support several Emergency Management Agency (EMA) coordinated COVID-19 vaccine clinics in Wyoming County in recent weeks. Additional clinics are being planned for our region.

Rotary’s help has been mentioned in several Wyoming County Press Examiner articles recently where Wyo Cty EMA Director Gene Dziak has noted Rotary’s help with these clinics.  In addition, the back sides of Tunkhannock Rotarians (Terri Detrick and Jodi Crimmel in their yellow Rotary hats) were shown on Channel 16 recently as they reported on one of the clinics.

It has been reported that the help provided by the volunteers has allowed the clinic staff to immunize 2 times the number of people than they would normally have been able to handle in one day.

Below are some photos provided by Rotarians Terri Detrick and Mary Tempest of the clinics and the Team leaders meeting with EMA.

The importance of this involvement by Rotary in helping staff these clinics was applauded by Rotarian Ann Marie Steven, CEO of Tyler Hospital in an e-mail (below) that she sent to Committee Chair Ann Way and is reprinted here with Ann Marie’s permission.

“The work that the Rotary offers to our community is always in the best interest of the residents of Wyoming County. The impact is beyond what each of you will ever know. This project in particular takes a village. It is not one individual; not any one organization; not any one team. It is a community effort. The contribution that members of the Rotary have offered in assisting with Covid vaccine distribution will help defeat this vicious virus that has consumed our world and most likely changed our lives forever. Please know your work is acknowledged, appreciated and will change the course of this terrible disease.

Thank you Thank you Thank you for all that is done through the Rotary. Be very proud of the role and impact each of you have on so many. Through your contribution, you will never realize how many lives you have touched and improved.

You all have my respect and gratitude
Ann Marie”

Program:
PDG Marcia Loughman
Rotary Foundation

PDG Marcia spoke about District 7410 Rotary Foundation.  RI Fdn is a 4-star charity for 13 years now and in the top ten charities. The Rotary Foundation transforms our gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.

The Rotary Foundation will be auditing District Grants over the last 5 years due to one or more Districts not keeping the appropriate files on their grants.  Norm Kelly (District Grant Chair) is working to ensure that our District has everything in place and up to date.  A neighboring District has been suspended over this non-compliance and they have to dig up 7 years’ worth of data.

More than $.92 of every dollar goes directly to service projects. The typical distribution for funding is local projects (75%) and global projects (25%).

Marcia cited that there are 2 common ways of giving to the Foundation: personal giving or fundraising to jointly contribute.  You can direct your donation to the 4 funds that are available: annual fund (share), polio fund, endowment fund (interest comes back to District annually) and the donor advised fund.

Recognition for a fundraising event can be at the club level or distributed among the members.  Each $1000 Donation gives the Donor 1000 Paul Harris Points. When a Donor accumulates 1000 points, they can honor someone with a Paul Harris award for Humanitarian Service. As a club, we have almost 18,000 points now, so the club can award up to 18 Paul Harris Fellows.

2021 District Foundation Events:
  • District 7410 Silent Auction, 21 clubs took part with over $26,000 raised for Foundation.
  • Concert in Wellsboro - June 11 - public event
  • Nine by Night - Golf tournament at night with glow balls – TBD – Rotarians and Friends Event
  • World Polio Day event  - Oct 24, 2021
  • Donor Recognition Event - Nov (Fdn Month)
  • Complete sustainable income project/launch Rotary wide - a game is being designed.
Polio Update

Polio is still present in 2 countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan - 143 cases YE 2019, 140 cases YE 2020. Assure 3 years without a case to certify a country as “ Polio Free”.

If we stop now, prediction is that within 10 years the world will be back to a 200,000 cases per year again.

PDG Marcia then ended her presentation with the following 2 slides summarizing Tunkhannock’s Giving to Foundation and then she issued the challenge on the final slide.
