The guest speaker at the Nov 12 Rotary Luncheon at Shadowbrook was Sheriff Robert Roberts. Sheriff Roberts provided details on his personal history in law enforcement and then gave information on the history of law enforcement in Wyoming County. He pointed out that the Sheriff is the highest-ranking law enforcer in some counties.
He then talked about the duties of the Sheriff dept. They handle courthouse and jail security, process licenses to carry in the County, assist other agencies as needed and are responsible to keep the peace in the county and to arrest violators of the law.
In the future, he wants to improve security at the courthouse with screening and inspection, increase public service and visibility (especially when staffing increases next year), enhance school patrols and expand to other schools to act as a deterrent.
