At the Dec 17 Zoom Rotary Meeting, Pres. Terri Detrick announced that a check for $2,300 for gifts for kids for Christmas goes to Wyoming County Children and Youth from the money collected at Nov 27's Candy Cane Day.

Howard Heise, Wyoming County Children and Youth Administrator, accepted the gift on behalf of the 40 foster children and other families supported by his agency. Howard thanked the Rotary for collecting this money and was awed by the generosity of the shoppers who donated a record breaking $4,600 on Candy Cane Day (half went to Interfaith Friends).

Howard remarked that for the first time in his 30 years of service, this is the most need (due to the COVID pandemic) that he has ever seen with people struggling to make ends meet and put food on their tables.  Therefore, in addition to ensuring each child will get a gift for Christmas, a portion of the money will be used for food gift cards so that some of the food-insecure families can have a great Christmas dinner this year.
