At the July 6th Rotary luncheon at Purkey's Pink Apple, the guest speakers were Middle School Principal Susan Bugno and 6th grade students Aidan Edwards and Lauren Kovalchick.
The students described a typical day for a 5th or 6th grader and how much they missed having regular recess periods.
Principal Bugno then discussed her plan to reinstitute at least a 20 min recess period daily to help encourage student interactions, communications, cooperation and team work. It will also allow the students to burn off some calories and to de-stress. As a result, the school is looking for some monetary donations to help buy balls, equipment etc for the recess period.
