Quilts of Valor Presentations at Dec 15 Meeting

At the Dec 15 Rotary Luncheon at Purkey's Pink Apple, Quilts of Valor were awarded to Rotarians and World War II veterans Norm Werkheiser and Fran Turner. The quilts were presented by Billie Blakeney and Pat Golla of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Thousands of quilters across the US work to create quilts that are presented to veterans from all conflicts, including World War II. Over 150,000 quilts have been awarded to service members and veterans who have been touched by war, and are nominated for this honor.  The Quilt carries a 3-part message from the heart: 1) to honor them for their service, for their sacrifice and their valor, 2) to thank them for preserving our freedoms and 3) to wrap and comfort them. Each Quilt is presented with a hug and each recipient is wrapped in their quilt for comfort. A certificate accompanies each Quilt.
