At the June 22nd Tunkhannock Rotary Luncheon at Purkey's Pink Apple, our speaker was Rotarian Cammie Anderson, who is the TASD Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Cammie described her background and her appointment 25 years ago to be TASD Drug and Alcohol Counselor. She talked about the various help and programs available to kindergarten through grade 12 students to help them with tobacco, alcohol, drug and educational problems.

Cammie expressed concern that although there are safety net programs in the schools, there are none for young adults 18-26 years of age, who are dying in record numbers from drug and alcohol abuse. They are getting prescription drugs from the medicine cabinets of family & friends, but since these drugs cost $40-80 on the street, it is cheaper to escalate to heroin which only costs $10/bag. Our communities need to get together to address bridging strategies to begin to help this age group.
