President Samantha Maruzzelli adjourned the meeting at 1:30 PM.

Guest Speaker:

Rotarian Lou Divis showed a slide presentation of some of the highlights of the 2017 Peace Camp.

Peace Camp will be Aug 13-17 2018.  Rotarians are welcome to come, have lunch and see what the kids are doing. The children are 6-12 years of age.  An article will appear in the paper advertising the Camp and flyers go home to all kids in the School District.

The Peace and Justice Commission from Wilkes-Barre helps lead the Camp and the Leader is from Guatemala. It has been ongoing for 5 years at St. Peter’s.

The kids are learning to be peace makers in our community and thus supporting the peace work of Rotarians worldwide.  It is also helping the kids gain self-esteem and avoid bullying.  We are waging peace by funding Peace Camp.

They have a lot of presentations including:
  • Rotarian Cammie Anderson talks about alcohol and drugs.
  • The Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen has a speaker.
  • There is sexual abuse training.
  • Training on protection against offenders in the community.
  • They learn yoga.
  • They also learn how to talk to each other in a non-confrontational way.
They also enjoy healthy lunches prepared by Rotarian Samantha Maruzzelli’s team.

After her presentation, President Samantha Maruzzelli presented a check for $2,000 for the 2018 a Peace Camp to Lou.
